Benefits of Volunteering
Volunteering with others at GNOAC will help you feel connected and is a wonderful way to meet like-minded people; all while contributing to activities and sports that you love (around your availability!). Our volunteers know that working towards a common goal and giving back feels good, can reduce stress, can give you purpose and hey, it may even increase your happiness! Come share your knowledge and experience while learning new skills too! When you volunteer everyone benefits! And the bonus is, many of our volunteer tasks involve being active and outdoors - getting involved is a great way to stay fit throughout the seasons.
How Volunteering Works at GNOAC
Below are a variety of volunteer opportunities (including duties and time commitments so you can volunteer as much or as little as you would like!). With the click of a button, you can let us know what interests you and where you'd like to help out.

Maintenance Crew
- I like being active, working outdoors with my hands and I am comfortable using hand tools like clippers or hand saws to trim branches and clear brush (i.e. trail stewardship, maintenance, site cleanup, small repairs, firewood stacking, etc.).
- I am good with a chainsaw and other heavy equipment (i.e. felling trees, brush work, operate tractor/RTV, wood splitting, etc.).
- Woodworking/carpentry interests me ( i.e. repair ski racks, shelving/ storage systems, new signage & general repairs, etc.).
- I know how (or would like to learn how!) to maintain/ repair ski and snowshoe equipment, install bindings, wax skis, repair straps, manage inventory, etc.).
Admin & Communications Crew
- I would enjoy creating short social media posts/ reels. I could help maintain the club's Facebook and Instagram accounts.
- I have computer skills and/or admin experience (i.e. special event registration, program coordination, managing donations etc.).
- I have experience with volunteers and working with teams (i.e. coordinate volunteers for specific tasks/ events/ work days, etc.).
- I have graphic design experience and I can help manage print requests and help develop promotional materials.
Special Events & Races Crew
- I would enjoy helping out anywhere I'm needed for a special event or race.
- I can officiate races and/ or would like to learn more about how to get certified.
- I would like to work with a small group to help with race course set up and take down (before and after events).
- Put me to work with food-related tasks (before, during and after events).
- I'm an organizer at heart and could help with event or race registration (forms, communication, sorting race bibs!).
Community Outreach Crew
- I would enjoy working with youth and families (i.e. assist with rentals for school groups and special events like Family Day or Lantern Ski activities, etc.).
- I'm interested in being a trail ambassador (meet up with new members for a group ski or a hike).
- I'd like to learn more about being a coach (Jackrabbit, Racing Rabbits, GN Junior Ski Team).
- I have experience with volunteers and working with teams (i.e. coordinate volunteers for specific tasks/ events/ work days, etc.).
